Part
Three
The walk up Windy Canyon is an interesting climb. After negotiating
the track up through the small canyon, you arrive on a ridge,
and an easy walk from there to Mt Hobson.
Here
are some photos.

It
is important in all tramping to take a water bottle, especially
here, as the hills are quite steep and on the ridges there are
no ready supplies of water. Also, being in the Hauraki Gulf,
it's a warm climate and you'll get hot and steamy thrashing
through, up and down the forest on your quest to see the sights.

I
took minimal gear so I could travel easily and quickly: water
bottle, camera, lenses, compass, paper for drawing, cheese sandwiches,
chocolate, spare wool jersey, sun hat, shorts and running shoes.
What I didnt wear fitted into a small backpack.
And my map. This was drawn on a piece of paper during a conversation
the night before with my hosts on the island. The only tricky
part following the route was on the ridge moving south as this
is a poled route. (ie: occasional poles set up to guide you
over the ridge) but keeping an eye on the topography and occasional
compass use kept me to the track.
