Tokaanu
oil on board

Here are some more prints and paintings.

The pictures begin as thumbnail sketches on scraps of paper, sometimes using watercolour pencils which when you wet them, give deeper colours.

Then in my studio I collage the various drawings together to arrive at my desired composition, and draw a full size cartoon of this image which serves as the guide for the first few silkscreen stencils. From then on, the print is worked much like a painting, with colours and textures added until the image is resolved.

     Days Bay

A view over Wellington harbour NZ, looking south from above Days Bay.
Oil painting on board, approx 300mm square.

Painted wet on wet with lots of oil, gives a watercolour feel.

     Waipu river

This is a limestone creek in a kauri forest.

Waipu means red water, the earth is ochre there, it's warm and it rains a lot.
Beautiful place.

Oil painting on canvas.

Hand cut paper and hand painted stencils and a photostencil for textures.

        Pilgrims

This is another triptych of silkscreen prints.

Each image is A4 size, and depicts the setting for Buller's exploration up the West Coast.
In this print I used a lot of silver pigment, which doesn't reproduce well in a photograph.
